Causes of Autism
Scientists have yet to discover what
exactly causes ASD, however, research suggests that genetics and environmental
causes play an important role in the causation of ASD.
Genetics:
- Children with a sibling or parent who have an ASD are at a higher risk of having an ASD (National Institue of Health, 2012)
Environment:
- External of the body that affects health:
- Food Consumption
- Water Usage and Consumption
- Medicine taken
When the prescription drugs such as valproic acid and thalidomide is taken during pregnancy, it can be linked to heightening the risk of the child developing ASD.
